Step-by-Step Assembly

Your mattress arrives in labeled boxes. Refer to your included or emailed invoice for your specific layer configuration. Total setup takes about 15 to 30 minutes depending on size.

Unboxing Sleeping Organic mattress layers
1

Unboxing

Your boxes will be labeled with their contents. Please refer to your included or emailed invoice for your layer configuration. The cover will usually be boxed with the bottom layer. Complete setup generally takes about 15 to 30 minutes depending on size and configuration.

Preparing the mattress cover
2

Prepare the Cover

Start with your mattress cover. Set your latex layers aside until you are ready for them.

Laying the mattress cover flat
3

Lay Cover Flat

Lay your cover out flat on a clean surface. This gives you a good starting point for building your mattress.

Using foundation as template for mattress cover
4

Use Foundation as Template

If possible, use a foundation as a template for the mattress cover. Place the cover on the foundation like a fitted sheet. Notice that the logo will be inside out at this stage. Make sure to smooth out as many wrinkles from the top panel as possible — this will make stacking your layers much easier.

Not all covers will have a logo.

Flat Surface Ready

Now you will have a flat surface for your layers to be stacked.

If you do not have a foundation and are installing on another surface such as a platform bed, simply insert the bottom layer and release any bunching that occurs under the mattress cover. The first layer is the most important. Once you have the first layer inserted, the others will easily stack on top. If there is any bunching under the bottom layer, there will not be enough material for the remaining layers. The key is to get a flat bottom panel with no bunching.

Stacking latex mattress layers
6

Start Stacking Layers

Begin stacking your latex layers. Be careful not to let the cover bunch while stacking. Try to place the layers directly rather than sliding them in.

Typically the larger holes on the latex point up. There is no right or wrong way to insert the latex. If smaller holes are present, facing them up may create a slightly firmer feel.

Continuing to stack latex layers
7

Continue Stacking

Continue stacking your layers. If you have a split configuration, it works the same way — just place the halves as close to each other as possible.

The latex may look too big for the cover or hang over a bit. This is normal. Latex stretches and can be worked inward. You want a snug fit with minimal loose material.

Almost There

Your mattress is taking shape. Keep layering according to your configuration until all layers are in place.

Adding the final latex layer
9

Final Layer

Add your last layer. If you purchased The Tree configuration, this is where your top comfort layer goes.

Forming the mattress by pulling corners
10

Form the Mattress

Once all layers are inserted, pull the cover up from the corners while gently massaging the latex inward to form the mattress shape. It may not look perfect at first, but it will come together. You can always unzip and adjust if needed.

Zipping up the mattress cover
11

Zip It Up

The cover may be putting a little pressure on the corners after you are done. This is normal. You are now ready to zip the top panel closed.

Enjoy Your New Mattress

You are now ready to enjoy your new Sleeping Organic mattress. There may be some slight bowing at first. The material in the cover will relax over the next 3 to 6 months and this will go away completely.

Assembly Tips

Common questions answered to help your setup go smoothly.

What if the latex feels too big for the cover?

This is completely normal. Natural latex is flexible and can be worked inward. Gently press and shape the latex toward the center of the cover. You want a snug fit — a little extra material is by design to ensure full coverage with no gaps.

Which side of the latex goes up?

Typically the side with the larger pin-core holes faces up. However, there is no wrong way to place the latex. If you flip a layer so the smaller holes face up, the feel may be slightly firmer. Experiment to find what feels best for you.

How long does assembly take?

Most customers complete assembly in 15 to 30 minutes. King and California King sizes may take a bit longer due to the larger layers. Having a second person to help can speed things up, but it is entirely doable solo.

Can I rearrange layers later?

Absolutely. One of the biggest advantages of a Sleeping Organic mattress is that you can unzip the cover and rearrange, swap, or replace individual layers at any time. This lets you fine-tune your comfort level without buying a new mattress.
