What It’s For
A 5-pound bag goes a long way. Most pillows take 2 to 3 pounds, leaving plenty of fill for fine-tuning later or a smaller second project.
If your latex pillow has lost loft, unzip the cover and add fill until it feels right again. Most refills use 1 to 2 pounds, leaving plenty in the bag for the next one.
Building a pillow from a fresh shell? Start with about 2 pounds, lie down, and adjust by handful until your head and neck feel right. There is no wrong amount.
Latex shred makes a long-lasting fill for dog beds, meditation cushions, bolsters, and craft projects. Springy, breathable, and free of synthetic dust.

The Latex Inside
Both Dunlop and Talalay come from the sap of the rubber tree. The difference is how they are processed, and that changes how each one feels.
Dunlop is denser and more supportive. Our Dunlop is GOLS-certified organic, the strictest worldwide standard for organic latex. It carries weight and holds shape.
Talalay is airier and softer with a quicker bounce. It cushions and adds give without feeling spongy.
Blended together as shred, you get a fill that supports under load and stays soft under your face. That is why we mix the two instead of selling either one on its own.
Sizing Guide
These are starting points, not exact rules. Personal preference, pillow shell size, and how firm you like things all change the answer. The good news: a 5-pound bag covers most pillow projects with fill left over.
If you are refilling, weigh your pillow first to see how much it has lost. If you are building from scratch, start light and add until it feels right. You can always add more, and you can pull a handful out if it feels too full.
For pet beds and cushions, fill until the shape holds without being packed tight. Too dense and it stops feeling like a cushion.
Typical Fill Amounts

Easy to Work With
Latex shred handles cleanly. Pieces are dry, springy, and a little bit grippy, so they stay where you put them. Open the bag indoors over a sheet or tray, scoop or pour the amount you need, then reseal the bag for next time.
For pillows, work in handfuls and check the feel each time. For cushions and pet beds, fill until the shape holds without packing it solid. The fill stays bouncy as long as the shell allows airflow, so cotton or linen covers work best.
A small amount of fine latex dust is normal in any bag of shred. It is non-toxic, but you may want to fill in a non-carpeted area for easy cleanup.
Sourced & Certified
The Dunlop in our shred is GOLS-certified organic. GOLS, the Global Organic Latex Standard, is the strictest worldwide certification for natural latex and covers farming, manufacturing, and labor practices. The Talalay in the blend is 100% natural latex made entirely from rubber tree sap, with no synthetic fillers and no chemical flame retardants.
No polyfill is added. No foam crumb. No dust treatments. Just shredded latex in a sealed bag.
Latex shred is a consumable refill product, so we do not accept returns once a bag is opened. What we do offer:

Shop CoverCommon questions about refilling pillows, mixing latex types, dust, and more.
Latex shred is a loose fill used to refill or build pillows, plus pet beds, meditation cushions, bolsters, and craft cushions. It lets you adjust loft and firmness by hand instead of being stuck with a fixed pillow.
Any pillow with a zippered or openable shell, yes. The shell needs to breathe, so cotton, linen, or other natural fabrics work best. Sealed memory foam pillows or solid latex pillows cannot be refilled with shred.
Standard pillows usually take about 2 pounds, queen pillows about 2.5 pounds, and king pillows about 3 pounds. Personal preference matters, so start a little under and add until it feels right.
A small amount of fine latex dust is normal in any bag of shred. It is non-toxic. We recommend filling over a sheet or tray on a hard floor so any stray pieces or dust are easy to sweep up.
No. Latex should not be machine washed or fully submerged. Wash the pillow shell or cushion cover separately and let it fully air dry before refilling. Keep the shred itself dry and out of direct sunlight to preserve its life.
Yes. Most projects use only part of a bag. Reseal the unused shred in the original bag, or transfer it to an airtight container, and store it away from sunlight. It will keep for a long time.
Dunlop alone can feel heavy and dense in a pillow. Talalay alone can feel a bit too soft and prone to compressing. The blend gives you the support of Dunlop with the bounce of Talalay, which is closer to what most people actually want in a shredded pillow.
Most people with mild latex sensitivities use natural latex bedding without trouble, since manufacturing washes remove most allergy-related proteins and you never touch the shred directly through the pillow shell. If you have a severe latex allergy, especially anaphylaxis risk, talk to your doctor first.
No. The shred is 100% natural latex with no petrochemicals, polyurethane, or chemical flame retardants. You may notice a faint, natural rubber smell when you open the bag. It is harmless and fades within a day or two of airing out.
Bags ship free via ground in the continental US, usually arriving within a week. Latex shred is a consumable refill product, so we do not accept returns once a bag is opened. If your order arrives damaged, call us at (800) 625-4042 and we will make it right.
